Denominations

Of a Wiccan

Not everyone realizes that there are numerous Wiccan demominations. Here I will address 16 different paths. These are by no means all the denominations that Wiccans follow.

Alexandian Wicca
Founded by Alex Sanders. Rituals basically Gardnerian modified with many Judo-Christian and Ceremonial Magivk elements. work skyclad, observe the eight Sabbats, and both God and Goddess.

American Celtic Wicca
"The American Order of the Brotherhood of the Wicca" founded by Jessica Bell. Virtually the same as Gardnerian, wok robed, prefer couples. Ceremonial Magick is their primary work.

Australian Wicca
The Church of the Old Religion in Western Australia. I don't have any other info.

Church of Y Tylwyth Teg
A Keltic/Welch tradition founded by Bill Wheeler in D.C. as "The Gentle People" in 1967. It teaches the balance of nature, folklore, mythology and the mysteries.

Circle Wicca
Founded by Selena Fox and Jim Alan. Non-profit spiritual organization and is recognized as a legal Wiccan Church by state and federal gov. It is more aligned with Shamanism than Wicca.

Coven of the Forest, Far and Forever
Good balance between the male and female aspects. they "see the Goddess and God figures as living representatives of even more fundamental, living forces which manifest on a variety of levels" They worship skyclad without the use of drugs. Esbats are held each moon and emphasis on Book of Shodows being personally handwritten.

Deboran Witchdom
They are eclectic with little use of ritual nudity. Sabbats are open to guests but no Esbats. Founded by Claudia Haldane.

Dianic Feminist Wicce
Founded by Ann Forfreedom. It is both religious and practices Magick. Includes both male and female practitioners, solo practitioners, mixed covens, and all female covens. They encourage female leadership and a Priestess mush be present for a Circle ritual to be held.

Frosts' Wicca
A Welch based tradition founded by Gavin and Yvonne Frostas "The Church and School of Wicca". It is a widely spread tradition.

Gardnerian Wicca
This is the first denomination of Wicca to make itself publicly known, founded by Gerald Gardner. Places emphasis on the Goddess over the God. Has a degree system of advancement and does not allow for self-initiation. They work skyclad and aim to have an equal number of males and females in their coven.

Georgian Wicca
Founded by George E. Patterson, they are eclectic, with much based on Gardnerian-Alexandrian plus some English traditions and some original. God and Goddess oriented but lean more towards the Goddess. Generally work skyclad. Both religious and Magickal, and celebrate the eight Sabbats.

Maidenhill Wicca
Very traditional Wiccan group that teaches a thorough training in Gardnerian and then encourages members to find a path consistent with there own beliefs.

Northern Way
A Norse tradition that is non-initiary and works robed in old Norse garb. The God names are Norse and they do not call quarters although they do cast a circle. They observe the four Solar Fire Festivals as well as the traditional Norse Sabbats.

Nova Wicca
Eclectic group founded by two Gardnerians. Work robed at Esbats and Sabbats and skyclad at initiations. Gardnerian deity names are used.

Pecti-Wita
A Scottish Solitary Tradition. It is attuned to the lunar and solar changes, with a balance between the God and Goddess. Primarily teaches Meditation and divination, and solitary working of Magick.

Seax-Wica
Founded by Raymond Buckland in 1973 and has a Saxon basis. It has open rituals, democratic organization. There can be Coven or Solitary practice and there can be Self-Initiation or Coven Initiation. Covens are led by Priest and/or Priestess. It is up to the Coven or individual to decide on whether or m=not to work robed or skyclad. (This is my personal choice of paths to follow.)
